Saturday, September 5, 2009 Thunder Raceway

As we made our way into Show Low it wasn't looking too good. The gully's we passed were rushing with water and all we could think about was that the track was going to be rained out. After a quick nap at our favorite place to stay, The Silver Creek Inn, we headed out to the track to discover it was nice and dry.

For the heat races, both the 21p and 2 were in the first heat of the night. It was great to see both cars taking the corners together. Steve Nix, #2 finished 2nd in the heat followed by #21p driven by Paul Whitehead. Their finishes and points gave both drivers a place in the top 8 positions for the main event.

After the card draw for the positions in the top 8, Whitehead and the 21p car found himself starting on the pole and Nix and the 2 car starting second row outside.

The main event was a little late starting as the mini sprint main event had several reds keeping our drivers anticipating the start of their race. Once on the track it was a good night for racing. The track was a little tacky to start but 20 laps in, the track turned to dry slick. Whitehead lead the race for the first 20 laps holding off Bo Baker, Ronnie Smith and Scott Box before the track dried out a little to much for the set-up we were running. Steve Nix started 2nd outside, but running a new engine with the same set-up dropped back for an 11th place finish and a list of things to change on the car for Sunday night. Whithead finished 5th for the night for his highest finish this season and looks to finish even higher Sunday night.

We will be posting the video later so be sure to check back.
